What you need

The minimum bar.

We don't cut corners on vetting. If you tick these boxes, we'd like to hear from you. If you don't yet hold a valid SIA licence, get qualified first — then come back.

  • Valid SIA Door Supervisor or Security Guard licence (in date)
  • Right to work in the UK with proof of ID
  • Smart appearance and professional conduct on site
  • Reliable phone and willingness to confirm shifts in writing
  • Reachable for night and weekend shifts (most of our work)
  • First aid and ACT (Action Counters Terrorism) training preferred — we can support you in getting these
No badge yet?

Here's the route in.

The SIA licence is the legal requirement — not optional. The route from scratch to a licence in your hand is shorter than most people think, and we can point you to accredited training providers we've worked with before.

1

Pick your licence

A Door Supervisor licence covers most of the work we offer (venues, events, corporate). Security Guard is the alternative for static and mobile roles.

2

Book an SIA-approved course

Typically 5–6 days at an accredited training centre. Covers conflict management, physical intervention, first aid, and ACT awareness.

3

Apply to the SIA

Once you pass, follow the official guide on GOV.UK. You'll create an account, upload ID and proof of right to work, and pay the current SIA licence fee. A background check runs alongside.

4

Get the badge — then call us

The licence typically arrives within a few weeks. As soon as it's in your hand, email support@shieldhq.co.uk and we'll start the on-boarding above.

Fees, course requirements and processing times are set by the SIA and change from time to time — always check the official guide on gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-sia-licence for the current figures.

What you get

Why officers stay with Shield HQ

💷

Paid fairly, paid on time

Competitive rates set against the work, not the lowest bid. Weekly pay cycle, no surprises.

📅

Real shifts, not promises

We confirm shifts in writing before you travel. No bookings cancelled at the gate.

📍

Local work, local team

Birmingham-based ops desk you can actually reach. We don't disappear after the shift starts.

📈

Progression that's earned

Solid officers get the bigger venues, the bigger events, and supervisory pathways.

How to apply

Four simple steps

No portals, no twenty-page forms. Email or call us — we'll do the rest.

1

Send us your details

Email support@shieldhq.co.uk with your name, SIA licence number, postcode, and the type of work you're after (doors, events, mobile, corporate).

2

Document check

We verify your SIA licence on the public register and run standard right-to-work checks. We'll come back to you within 3–5 working days.

3

Quick interview

A short call or in-person meeting with the operations desk. Bring your badge, ID, and any relevant training certificates.

4

First booking

Once you're cleared we'll start offering you shifts that fit your availability. Show up sharp, do the work, and we'll keep them coming.
